Interesting Information About Beekeping

Beekeeping is the term used to refer to the process of breeding bees in artificial hives and collecting honey. Beekeeping is a fascinating and interesting hobby one can engage in to. It can also be turned into a gainful business. However, you have to know the fundamentals of beekeeping so that you will be able to take the benefits of the hobby.

When you venture in to beekeeping, proper equipment for beekeeping is required. The beehive is one of the basic things beekeepers should consider. To start a beehive business, one should buy packaged bees and an already established bee colony or accumulating swarms. For starters, packaged bees are highly recommended. Beekeepers are also required to use proper tools for handling of honey, a bee source and the appropriate protective gears. Honey bees are going to sting to protect their hives when they sense any attack or intrusion. Because of this, beekeepers should wear safety gears and clothing in managing with bees like gloves, beekeeping suits and hats with veil. Emitting a bee smoke will prevent the bees from stinging when working with the colony and the hive. A bee smoker is the equipment used to calm the bees which in turn will make the bees evacuate from the bee hive. The smoke will also avert the release of pheromones of other bees, preventing them to deliver notice to other bees for invaders.

Beekeeping information contains various aspect and facts about bees that will help beekeeper starters. Honey bees reside in a hive and they are said to be social insects. A group of bees is called a colony, which they can make up to thousands of honey bees. The honey bees work altogether to look for food, make a breeding ground and nurture the young. Extraction of the honey from the beehives is one of the most interesting and challenging part of beekeeping. Beekeepers must see to it that the honey is not kept from the hives for a long period of time to prevent the honey from turning dark in color. This will also make the bees produce and store more fresh honey. The color of the honey does not influence its taste; however most people and honey lovers prefer the light yellowish honey.

In beekeeping, extracting honey is an important part to be considered. Beekeepers must know the right time to gather and extract honey from the honey combs. Extracting the honey ahead of time spoils the honey and can ferment the honey. Bees can be used as a measure to determine the proper time to gather honey and the time when you can see wax caps over the honey combs. The best time to gather honey is during the morning when the day is sunny.

For those who wish to keep bees, knowing the local government's policies and regulations on beekeeping is also important. Bees also play an essential role in the environment, particularly in the flowering plants. Beekeeping can be very fun and profitable; you just have to conform to certain policies and guidelines.

Beekeepers Suit

There is no doubt that beekeeping is extremely interesting and a lot of fun. At the same time, it can be very dangerous if you do not handle it properly. Now that you have started beekeeping, you have got the bees and the ready-made hive. Have you not forgotten a vital part of beekeeping, a beekeeper suit?

A beekeeper suit is required to protect you from the deadly stings of the bees. I'm sure you know how that feels! You must know that bee stings can even kill a person. You need the protection whether you like it or not. To maintain the colonies of bees, it requires your manual intervention. Once you initially invade the hive of your bees, the moment you do so, the bees will take it as a threat and try to sting you. Here comes the beekeeper suit that would prove its worth.

Firstly, when buying a beekeeper suit, make sure that its parts are all light colored - dark color would make the bees see you more as a threat and they would get after you. Also, remember not to wear any perfume as bees have a strong sense of smell. This is probably the least liked attribute of a bee.

Secondly, with your rel=nofollow [http://www.beekeepingpassion.com/understanding-the-beekeeping-suit]beekeeper suit, make sure you get a veil (a fine mesh net) or protective hat to protect your face and neck from the stings. But while you wear them, make sure you are able to see well and get enough ventilation. Sometimes it is seen that the bees still manage to get inside the veil/hat. Do not panic; always stay calm, walk away from the hives and then take off your veil/hat to let the bees fly away. Do not, even by mistake, take off the veil/hat near the hive - it would be your open invitation for the swarm to attack and sting you! There are ready-made beekeeping-suits available in the market that includes the veils/hats.

Thirdly, with your beekeeper suit, make sure to buy plastic or vinyl covered gloves to protect your hands so that the stings do not easily penetrate them. When you wear the gloves, they should overlap the suit so that there is no room left for the bees to enter through any opening when they are in the mood to attack you.

Fourthly, with your beekeeper suit, make sure to buy boots (quite high - up to your knee would be better) to protect your legs and feet. Still, if by chance, few manage to go down your boot, walk away very slowly from the hive, take off your boots very gently and let the bees fly away. Do not make any such movement that would invite a swarm!

If you want to buy a secondhand/used beekeeper suit, make sure that it is free from any contamination and/or diseases.

4 Important Beekeeping Tools You Will Need For Your Hive

Beekeeping is not like most other hobbies. With a train set or board game, there are very little external things you need to be able to carry out your hobby. However, beekeeping is a specialized art and there are a few things you will need if you want to become a successful beekeeper.

Hive - This is obviously important as the quality of the hive will affect how well your bees are able to use it to create honey. There are many designs of hive available, although the most commonly used in the Langstroth hive. You must also choose carefully when selecting a foundation for the hive. Wax is a good material to use as it helps the bees create their honey more easily, particularly when built around a hexagonal comb.

Nourishment - Winter can be a tough time for bees. Many of the plants and flowers they need to survive are gone and as much as 50% of a population of a colony can die over the winter. To prevent this, you can establish a feeder near your hive and fill it with an alternative food source like sugar syrup. This is also helpful as bees can eat their own honey when food supplies run low, and this will ensure that there is a greater yield for you in the end.

Smoker - Beekeepers are often used to dealing with the odd sting, but would perhaps think twice about approaching a hive of bees to take their honey. Bees are very territorial and can take outsiders nearing their colony as an attack. They will, of course, defend themselves accordingly, which can be dangerous. To limit the dangers of this, most expert beekeepers use a smoker to calm the bees down. The device releases smoke at various intervals over the bees and effectively knocks them out or stuns them, meaning that their aggressive defensive behavior is not triggered by approaching beekeepers. Just be careful to not become too reliant on smokers - overuse of one can make the bees listless and can lower productivity of a hive.

Clothing - Beekeepers should also wear protective equipment at all times to make sure they do not feel the effects of the bees' stingers. A thick suit is worn to prevent and stings reaching through to the skin, which a hat and usually a veil should both be worn to protect the vulnerable head and face area from bees. Wearing gloves is also a good idea to protect the hands.

How Temperatures Affect Honey and Beeswax, Also How to Handle Bee Stings

Bee keeping is a preferred hobby or even a profession today due to the various benefits and profits it offers.

Bees produce beeswax in the form of small scales. These scales are formed under the abdomen of the bee. By gorging themselves with sugar syrup or honey, bees stimulate beeswax production. In order to raise cluster temperature, bees huddle together.

It is necessary for bees to consume at least ten pounds of honey to produce one pound of wax. However, bees are found to produce more wax if they feed on sugar. Beeswax, when cooled quickly after passing through heat becomes brittle and pale in color. Rapid contraction also results in development of cracks.

This is one of the main reasons why wax as to be cooled in a gradual manner to ensure preservation of colour and texture. Melt beeswax using a water bath. It is highly recommended not to raise melting point of wax too much as this may result in reduced aroma.

Ensure that you do not place on the gas ring or hot plate, the pan of wax directly. If you overeat, beeswax tends to become damaged. Melting of beeswax should be done using aluminium, plastic, steel or tin plated containers. If you melt wax in a copper, brass or galvanized iron pan, it tends to change colour.

For heating honey, it is recommended to use a warming box, oven that as a manual temperature control or water bath. Localized overheating is best avoided.

If you are stung by the honeybee, you will find that even after the bee pulls away, the venom pump and sac are left in your skin. During the initial twenty seconds or so, the venom is injected into your system. If you want to minimize the effect of venom, it is recommended to take the sting out fast.

Contrary to popular opinion, there is no arm in squeezing out the bee sting if you do it immediately. This will minimize any harmful effects of the venom. You can use a hive tool or even your finer nails to scratch out the sting.

In order to stop other bees from stinging in the same area, the alarm pheromone must be effectively masked by smoking the area. For immediately relief, you can move away from the hive and apply a soothing lotion such as calamine or Witch Hazel. A pack of frozen peas or ice pack will effectively help reduce swelling or pain.

If a bee stings you trough your clothing, ten you can just remove the clothing and smoke the area immediately. It is highly recommended to wear protective clothing when you work with the bees. For any delicate tasks such as clipping and queen marking, you must wear tin loves to protect your and. Wearing loves also ensures that your hands are kept free from Propolis and clean. If you are a beginner, be sure to wear complete protection suit when you work with the bees.

Beekeeping is a wonderful experience and by following certain safety methods, you can make this activity highly lucrative and enjoyable.

How to Make Beekeeping Easy With a Beekeeping Guide

Beekeeping is an intriguing hobby. But it is something that cannot be accomplished overnight; it takes courage to overcome the fear of a bee sting, understand their nature and the patience to befriend these creatures who are so valuable yet could be dangerous without the proper guide on how to deal with them.

The demand for honey and other by-products from beekeeping is constantly growing as the discovery of the benefits from it's by products starts to become popular. So whether you want to raise bees for a hobby or for business, it's obvious that you will benefit from both. All beekeeping enthusiasts just need to be equipped with time to learn the complete information about starting beekeeping.

Beekeeping is an activity that almost anyone can start as it doesn't cost much. The investment requires only beehives or "nests" for the bees to raise their young ones. The basics are easy to learn as long as the beekeeping reference is there to guide you.

Nobody is born a beekeeper. Correct information will determine the failure and success of raising bees. That's why a need for a beekeeping guide is important in the beekeeping process.

What is a beekeeping guide?

A beekeeping guide will help you in learning the basic and relevant information on how to be a beekeeper. The guide will give you a perspective on where to start, how to start, what you need, and how to keep yourself safe while harvesting the delicious honey that your bees have produced.

Here are the few among the many things that a good bookkeeping guide will teach you:

1. The right steps to get started in beekeeping.

2. The best time of the year to start.

3. Safety precautions for yourself and your neighbors against bee stings.

4. Some challenges to face in raising bees.

5. Best location to consider for the hives.

6. The ideal number of hives to start with.

7. The breed of bees.

8. Where to get your bees.

9. Proper clothes and necessary equipment for beekeeping.

10. What plants and flowers are best for bees to produce good honey.

11. How to use nectar and pollen substitutes.

12. How to treat accidental bee stings.

The main advantage of beekeeping is its impact on the environment and food production. It produces natural honey, fruits, nuts and vegetables through pollination. Honey, aside from a natural sweetener, is a good remedy for plant allergies.

For those who aim to raise bees for business reasons, beekeeping is a profitable business. Honey is an internationally traded commodity that has no issues with preservation or loss. The supply is less in proportion to the demand which makes it one of the most sought after commodity in any country.

Beekeeping could just start as a hobby for fun and its produce is an exciting reward for the family. But in a global environment, bees are one of the most important creatures that sustain the growth of many living things. It supplements the life of mankind and makes it easier for them to maintain the food supply.

Bees do sting, but bees are friends.

FHTM a Sting - Latest Breaking News

FHTM is a network marketing company founded nearly 10 years ago in 2001. They partner with large national companies to gather customers for the various products and services that these companies have to offer. This model is unusual because most companies research, develop and market their own proprietary products.

The basis of fraud is that there has been intentional deception for personal gain. The fact that FHTM has been a profitable business for nearly ten years coupled with the fact that is has partnered with some of the largest well known companies in America leads me to believe that claims of fraud are doubtful.

Recently two states scrutinized FHTM for not strictly regarding the state's specific rules and regulations regarding network marketing companies. FHTM's mistake was not proactively researching the specific compliance issues within each state as they grew and expanded. It was these oversights that made FHTM's intentions appear to be questionable, but in the end validated them.

But it won't end there. Having a misunderstood compensation model is just asking for trouble.

Being both a professional in corporate America and network marketing (not with FHTM), I find the criticism of the later to be unfounded and contradictory. Here are just two examples of what I mean by contradictory:

• Network marketing is a pyramid. Yes it is. In fact, all corporations are pyramids, the government is a pyramid and the strongest structure known to man is a pyramid.

• The people at the top make all the money. Yes they do. Just like every traditional corporate structure. The President is at the top of the pyramid and he receives the largest salary. However, what are the odds that a person at the bottom of the corporate pyramid will ever reach the top? Network marketing is sets forth a structure where every single distributor has a shot, independent of their sponsor or anyone else, to make it to the top.

The fact is that network marketing is a fair and equitable model (in its purest form), which makes it so alluring. It gives people hope and they can see the light at the end of the tunnel; a way out of the nine to five grind.

And with today's advances in technology, the prospect for success in your FHTM business is even greater than ever. With the proper knowhow, a distributor can now define their target audience (people already looking for what you have to offer), and position themselves in their pathway of consumption. Never before in the history of network marketing have these strategies been available to the distributor.

Strategies like teleconferences, webinars, pay per click advertising, email and even video (think YouTube) are just some of the modern day marketing strategies available to the serious business builder. In fact, because you are using the same marketing strategies that larger companies use, rather than marketing to your friends and family, it gives network marketing model even more relevance.

Christina Gilman has spent the last seven years devoted to building businesses, from real estate to network marketing, that utilize leverage to provide time and money freedom.

Understanding the Beekeeping Suit

Although the first part of preparing yourself to work with bees is understanding the bee's first line of defense. Even with an understanding of bee behavior, most beekeepers also wear some protective clothing. Many people are allergic to bee stings. But, sometimes the only way that someone discovers that they are allergic to bee stings to the first time that they get stung. If you are considering keeping bees, you should first determine whether or not you are allergic to bee stings. Even very experienced beekeepers get stung. In fact, some beekeepers believe that the more stings a beekeeper receives, the less irritation each one will cause to the body in the future. They believe that it is important for the beekeeper to be stung a few times during the season. With frequent bee stings the beekeepers develop higher levels of antibodies due to the reaction of the bee venom which offers them a resistant to stings in the future.

But, to minimize the amount that they are stung, even very experienced beekeepers usually wears gloves and a hooded suit or hat and veil. Although, some experienced beekeepers sometimes choose not to use gloves because they inhibit some of the delicate work of working with bees. Plus, a bee sting that is received on a bare hand can usually be quickly removed by scraping it with a fingernail in order to reduce the amount of venom that is injected. A person's face and neck are the most important areas to protect because defensive bees are attracted to the a person's breath. There can be much more pain and swelling on the face than a sting received elsewhere on the body. Plus, it is difficult for the beekeeper to remove the bee sting from their face without looking at a mirror. It is important to learn how to approach the bees calmly in order to avoid an aggressive assault from a large group of bees that is targeting the face.

Beekeeping suits are full length jumpsuits that are worn by the beekeeper when they are tending to the bee hive. The protective suit that beekeepers wear is usually light in color, typically white, and made out of a smooth material. A bee suit that is light in color provides the largest difference from a bee colony's natural predators like bears and skunks which tend to be dark-colored and furry. The beekeeping suit also gives the beekeeper a way to remove stings and venom sacs simply with a tug on the clothing. Protective clothing may also hinder or reduce the venom from the bee-stings from entering into the body. The stings that are left in the fabric of the suit will continue to pump out an alarm pheromone that attracts aggressive action and further stinging attacks from the bees. In order to reduce the risk of the bees picking up the sent the next time that the beekeeper visits the hive, the suit should be washed regularly. They can also rinse their hands in vinegar to minimize the bee's attraction.

How to Become a Beekeeper

Beekeeping is the controlled raising of bees in hive in order to gather honey. It has a long history and is not only a wonderful hobby, beekeeping is also a profitable business. But in order to reap the benefits of this fascinating hobby, a good deal of knowledge must first be learned.

In order to get started in beekeeping, you have to make sure that you have the right equipment. The first thing that a beekeeper needs is the basic components of the hive. Beekeepers can start their bee business by buying package bees, buying an already established bee colony or collecting by swarms. But for beginners it is recommended to buy packaged bees. You will also need protective gear, equipment for handling the honey, and a bee source. Typically honey bees do not sting unless they have to defend themselves or the hive. Beekeepers use protective gear like beekeeping suits, gloves, hat and veil. They also use smokers to subdue the bees in order to work with the colony and the hive. A smoker is device that emits smoke. The smoke creates a response within the bees that makes them prepare to evacuate the hive due to a fire. It also distorts the pheromone that the guard bees release to the other members of the hive upon the realization of an intruder.

Honeybees are extremely social insects that live in hives as a colony that can contain thousands of bees. All of the bees work together to build a nest, collect food and to rear the young. Beekeepers are able to work with the natural instincts of the honey bee to gather honey that can be used or sold for profit. Removing the honey from the hive can sometimes be challenging but it is important not to leave the honey in the hive for too long. If it is left in the hive for a long time, the color of the honey will be darker and the bees will not have more room to store honey. The color of the honey does not affect the taste but most people would prefer light colored honey. It is equally important not to harvest the honey too soon. Honey that is harvested too soon contains too much water and it might spoil or ferment. The best indicator of when honey is ready is the bees. When the beekeeper sees wax caps over the honey cells, then it is time for harvesting the honey. The best time to harvest the honey is during a sunny day or in the morning when your bees are busy.

Before one starts beekeeping they have to make sure that your local government allows beekeeping in your area. But, the benefits of adding bees to an area are large. Without mellow honey bees dominating an area, larger and more aggressive insects like wasps and hornets will move in. Plus, as everyone knows, bees are the best thing for the local plant life. As long as the beekeeper places their hives in an area that is free from houses and recreational areas, your experience with beekeeping will be fulfilling.
