Setting the Scene With Teamwork

Today I was sitting at the computer looking at a blank screen and feeling totally without inspiration.

So when my partner came home and suggested that we should go out for lunch and then do the family shopping I was in two minds about going. You know that feeling? If I stay here I might just stare at the page and think that I could have gone out, but if I go out I might not have time to do the article when I get back. Rightly or wrongly, I decided on lunch and shopping with my partner.

On the way back from the supermarket, we took a detour. My partner is involved with a local amateur theatre group, he doesn't have the time available for rehearsals so is rarely in the shows, but he does get involved with set design and building.

The latest production for the theatre group is 'Noises Off' - an ambitious project for a small local group, not least because the set has to revolve twice during the performance. Our detour was to a local warehouse which has been rented for a few weeks to enable the building of the revolving set prior to loading it into the theatre on the week of the show. I am always impressed by how much work amateur groups put in for a show that will only have four performances.

We looked in to see what progress was being made on the set. It looks very much like the computer model and there were people busily painting handrails and cutting up plywood. We stayed just long enough to admire their handiwork and check what time we would be required at the end of the week. Trevor will be there all day on Friday to help break the set into its constituent parts ready for moving. On Saturday we will both be there to load those parts onto a trailer and then meet it at the theatre for reassembly on the stage.

So the whole process is almost finished and in a couple of weeks we will be pulling the set apart so that the wood and flats can be stored for use in future productions.

But they didn't get to this stage overnight. It is some four or five months since it was first discussed. My partner started thinking about the design of the stage about twelve weeks ago. The rotation between the first and second act, then back again between the second and third was a logistical and engineering issue with health and safety thrown in for good measure. Trevor got involved because he has a background in engineering and computer graphics. There were a number of evenings where he sat at his computer with colleagues from the theatre group so they could discuss the design, each from their own experience, to finally come up with something that could safely be rotated while meeting the requirements for the action that needs to take place.

It has taken a lot of planning and hard work to get to this stage, but no-one had to do it on their own. Information and experience was shared at every stage, and then everyone moved in to do the physical construction work. It was a group effort with each person making a contribution.

When I look at internet projects, that is what I want to find. I'm ready to make my contribution, but I expect there to be other people with different expertise who can give advice and suggestions based on their experiences. I think I've finally found it.

Make Good Money From Home Or Not, Top Three Ways!

My name is Kim. I live in Oregon now, but when I first moved to Georgia in 1997 I was a single mother struggling to make ends meet. I worked 30 hours a week at $9.00 an hour, but made too much for welfare yet not enough to live on. My son and I survived on Top Ramen noodles. I was always looking for extra sources of income. As you know there are a lot of money making schemes out there and I bought all of them; it was a costly education. While living in Georgia I ran across information about what I consider to be the top three ways to make good money from home or not, no matter what State you live in.

The first is called Independent Merchandising. This is not a work at home job but a flexible position outside of the home. (Note: if you live in a small town you might have to drive to a larger neighboring town where there are more retail establishments) The companies don't charge to work for them; they are legitimate. I found several positions close to home, and worked for them at my own pace. As I continued doing this I also learned ways to maximize my profits. These multiple streams of income helped me with holiday money, or just to make ends meet. I sent my son to an Ivy League college three years ago and these jobs helped me to make it until he got that scholarship; they were a God send.

What is Independent Merchandising? There are dozens of companies across the US that will hire and/or contract you to work for them independently and at your own pace. Once you are hired the job entails driving to the retail establishment you are contracted to merchandise with the paperwork you print off of a computer, from the companies' website. When you arrive at the store you go to the customer service desk and sign in, in the vendor book, then you ask for the manager in charge of the area you are replenishing to let them know you are there. They will take you to the back of the store where the merchandise is waiting for you to stock the floor with. They will then show you where to place it on the floor. You will already have your detailed instructions from the company that hired you. Once you pull the old merchandise and stock the new, process any returns, you clean up and place any overstock in the back. You let the manager know you are finished and then sign out in the vendor book. That's it. When you get home you enter the data into the customer website and you are done. It is possible to be hired for several of these positions with the same or different companies to maximize your profits. They pay weekly, bi-monthly, or monthly depending on the company that hires you.

The second way to make money from home, or not... is called Doing Trailer Checks. Companies will hire you to go to various movie theatres around your area, or surrounding areas to watch movie trailers. First you get your assignment off the company's website and pick your movie theatre locations, and then you print off your paper work from your computer. Sometimes your assignments will be secret, sometimes not. Then you drive to the theater, buy a ticket, or two tickets, (the company reimburses you for the cost of the tickets) and go in about 30 minutes before the movie starts. Your job is to watch all the theatre commercials (trailers) advertising other movies. You take notes and record various information such as what movies they were, people in the theatres' reactions to the trailers themselves, how many people were in the theatre with you ETC. The questions vary. When you're done you immediately call the company with the information you gathered, or fill out the paperwork and input in on their website from a computer.

Sometimes the company will ask you to go to a given theatre to put up a movie display, or to secretly inspect the bathrooms and theatre for cleanliness. Other times you may just go in to do a head count only, during a movie. Then when you are done you can leave immediately, or if you like, stay and watch the movie! The point is... they pay well, sometimes $12.00 to $20.00 for 15 to 30 minutes of actual work; and you can accept theses assignments all over your city to maximize your profits, kind of a fun gig, don't you think?

The third way to make money from home, or not... is called Secret Shopping. You may have heard of this...I always thought they were bogus jobs, why would anyone pay a person money to shop, had to be a scam right? Wrong, there are companies all over the US that hire secret shoppers to pose a customers seeking to make a purchases, just to test the employees on various levels of their customer service. You go to a company website...pick your assignment, and then go to the retail establishment pretending to be a customer, or if you like the store..., be a real customer. In any case, you are secretly making mental notes about the specific points of your assignments. You might be judging how long it was before someone greeted you, or how friendly they were on a scale from 1 to 10. You might even be asked if they told you about a certain promotion or not. The point is it doesn't take long and the money can be good. The only thing is you cannot accept assignments for the same store twice for a given amount of time for obvious reasons...hello you're a spy! Hope this information has been helpful to you, and remember...when it comes to financially taking care of you and family...think creatively and out of the box and you'll always be able to make ends meet!
