How to Start a Duct Tape Wallet Business - The Basics of Controlling Quality

If you think duct tape wallets are easy to make, you have never tried making one.

And while producing these wallets isn't for the faint of heart, it is not difficult to learn how to do well if you are willing to make a few mistakes and allow the tape to teach you a few lessons.

Begin With High Quality Fabric

There are several qualities of duct tape available so it is important to choose the best quality so the fabric will stand up to regular use and abuse.

Types of Duct tape - Industrial, Commercial and Specialty. Industrial is available in limited colors only and has thicker webbing which reduces its visual appeal as a fabric. Use commercial or specialty grade only to achieve the best results.

Brands - there are several from which to choose and they are pretty close in overall quality. Some better known brands are: Duck Brand, 3M, Tape Brothers and Pro Tape & Specialties.

Employ a Standard Assembly Process

Use Standard Steps - by documenting a system to assemble your wallets, you will be able to change certain aspects of the process when more effective methods become evident. An undocumented or ill thought out production system is very difficult to alter because no official plan exists to be changed.

Implement Kaizen - kaizen is a Japanese term meaning continuous improvement and in order to be successful in your attempt for better quality, you must constantly be thinking about how you can improve your assembly system in order to streamline or improve the wallets. This is why it is imperative that you document your assembly system and then add or remove procedures as it becomes necessary.

Professional Presentation

Bag 'Em and Tag 'Em - Duct tape wallets need a little extra display help when it comes to the initial presentation and this can easily be achieved through packaging. Simply insert your wallet into a regular size zip lock sandwich bag and produce a heavy paper bag header to seal off the top.

Producing The Header - For most zip lock bags, the size of the header will be 61/4" x 21/2". Once you have it printed and cut out, the header is then folded in half lengthwise in order to slip over the top of the bag.

Attaching The Header - Seal the bag and attach your header by applying two staples approximately 2 inches in from the edge of the bag on both sides and closer to the bottom of the header.

Quality Cannot Be Inspected Into Wallets

There is much more to the quality process of building duct tape wallets than can be covered in one article but one main concept rules the quality roost.

Originated by the economist Edwards Deming, this mindset is the linchpin to all success in attaining quality. Edwards taught that quality can not be inspected into anything, it must reside in the hearts and minds of the people performing the work.

Ensure you have quality in mind throughout every aspect of assembly for your wallets and without a doubt the pride you inject will clearly shine through.

Here's hoping you stick to it!

Thank you, friend.

How Do I Price My Products Or Services?

The price you set on your product or service will determine how long you can stay in the market. Price it too high and you will not get enough buyers. Price it too low and buyers will undervalue your product thinking it is worth even less.

What are your expenses?

A physical product will have the cost of raw material, production, packaging and delivery. A digital product does not escape cost free. There is the cost of web hosting, shopping carts, autoresponders, graphics, and assorted other expenses. Some of these will overlap the physical products that are sold online. Others are expenses for both, such as taxes, electricity and other such. In either case these components must be considered in the pricing of your product.

Pricing Rule

To make a profit, your prices need to be consistently above the expenses. While you can have specials that lower the price below expenses this can only be a temporary basis. The average must be above. Even if your price is set to make a profit this does not guarantee you have priced it high enough to stay in business over the long run. This requires pricing your products to a point that will help your business stay a float.

What is your worth?

Some people, especially those selling digital goods and services, under-price their products or services. Unfortunately if under-price clients and customers are likely to under-value your product or service worth. Rather than increase sales, this will actually decrease sales. Also because your profit margin is so small it means you will not make enough to sustain your business.

A "Beer on the Beach"

In 1985 the economist Richard Thaler studied pricing structures. He found that thirsty people on the beach would pay $1.50 for a beer from the shabby grocery store. However if the beer came from the resort hotel they would pay $2.65. It did not matter that the beer was exactly the same, what mattered was their expectations of the place selling the beer.

What is the difference?

Beach goers assume the cleanliness, service and quality of the shabby grocery store to be less. The expect the expenses to be less, therefore the pricing of their products to be less. Alternatively, the resort hotel is expected to be cleaner. The expenses they pay out are expected to be higher. The perception of the buyer is that what is provided by the hotel is of better quality and better service, and their expected pricing structure would be higher to represent that.

What does that mean?

This translates to the amount people are willing to pay for the same beer. So if you want customers and clients to pay more, are you presenting yourself with a quality image that make you worth more?

How to Make Money Online Securely

In 2004, Ireland was named as the best country to live in by the magazine called The Economist. The country generates thousand of jobs but experienced a small downturn in 2008. Nevertheless, the economy remains stable and the local unemployment rate remains very low. Aside from the locally available jobs, there are also other opportunities available for the Irish through online resources. The idea is to make money on the internet in Ireland, and the process is simple.

If you would like to try, choose any of the so-called e-income possibilities namely paid surveys and affiliate marketing opportunities offered by numerous websites. You shall be surprised at how easy it is to make money on the internet in Ireland, as a few clicks on the mouse can already bring you the bucks.

But before you go running towards your PC, note some of these helpful reminders first. For one, never forget that the online world is swarming with phony offers so be careful with the sites that you choose to trust. Credible sites lay out rules clearly and straightforwardly, and never make exaggerated promises of money returns.

If you are also being charged for answering a survey, then better think twice before you bite the offer and take money from your pocket, no matter how small the amount is. Sincere sites that offer paid surveys do not charge anything for access. If you want to know the best trusted sites, try those with good established reputations already like Google AdSense, ClickBank and eBay to name a few.

Job Hunting - 4 Reasons For a Home Based Business

Sometimes the unexpected comes and it hits you right between the eyes. One day your enjoying producing for the company that you have worked for nearly 20 years, the next day your out on the street without any job prospects. In May of 2009, I found myself without a job, in the middle of a declining economy, having to find a new job. No problem right? After a few month of searching, it was not just looking for a particular job in my career niche, it was looking for any job. I had to feed a family of four, and each day without a job, heightened the tension at home. Can you relate to some of this pain?

If you are that person that has worked in the traditional workplace with your own brick and mortar business, or you were working for someone who owned one, you need to consider what some of the economist are saying about the hesitance of traditional business owners in hiring new employees. You might have to reconsider where you are going to find your next job.

4 REASONS FOR A HOME BASED BUSINESS

1. CAUTIOUS BUSINESS OWNERS

Whether you believe the economy is stabilizing or not, employers will continue to have cold feet about the economy. They will be concerned about overall costs and they will be very conservative in hiring additional employees. It was hard enough to let go of those hard working employees when the economy started to decline. It just will not be as easy to find a traditional job as it once was.

2. FREEDOM

What was that word Mel Gibson screamed out as he was fighting for a most important cause, 'FREEDOM', that is what you will have plenty of. Freedom to spend quality time with your family. Freedom to work when you want to work and how long you want to work. Vacation time is whenever and as long as you would like it to be. You are freed up to be involved in events that are of very high priority to you such as, your involvement in the church, community, politics, school, sports, it goes on and on.

3. IT IS COST EFFECTIVE

Lower start-up costs. You are already at home, so you will not have to find a rental office or lease. If you are the sole employee, you will not have to pay any employees. Unless you meet with people on a regular basis. Your clothing allowance will be minimal. Transportation costs will be cut down because you will not have to travel to the office first, before you meet with your clients. You can also eat your wife's leftovers for lunch, I am assuming that is a positive thing! And by the way, what a blessing it is that you do not have to deal with the daily commute.

4. TAXES ADVANTAGES

There are many tax breaks you can take advantage of as an owner of a home business. There will be many business deductions that would not be available to you in a traditional business. You need to check the tax laws for the proper deductions or have your tax accountant do that for you.

You might be the type of person that says, the traditional workplace is the only place for me. I wish you the best, but after months of searching and still with no job, you might need to set any pride aside and consider what is truly best for you and especially your family. Would you consider the possibility of looking into a home based business? There are many advantages!
