Unusual Business Ideas That Work

There are many unusual business ideas that work, many unusual little known ideas are generally the result of someone thinking up a new or different way of providing a service that people need. Below are a few of my favourite ideas from the businesses I have reviewed.

Spyware and Virus Removal: This is a great recession-proof idea, infected computers are more common than ever and most people haven't a clue how to fix them. With easy to obtain info on how to fix these computers, this is a great business to get into and looks only set to grow in the future. Ask around and you will hear how many people pay a repair-shop good money to fix a problem that can generally be fixed for free and in a short time leaving good potential for profit.
Christmas Light Installation: I genuinely thought that this was a seasonal small-time business, but there are guys making $100,000 dollars a year hanging Christmas lights in the 90 days before Christmas!
Headstone Cleaning: I read about a guy that made a good income cleaning headstones. There is a little more to cleaning marble, granite, limestone and metal headstones than you think, but not so much that someone with a savvy can't make a good repeat business from providing the service.
Worm Farming: This is a nice low-maintenance way to make money. It's an environmentally friendly business that can provide a profit by selling the good quality organic soil that the worms help produce.
Face-Painting: If you've ever seen a kid with their face painted at a party or event you'll know how much they love it, and they are a walking advert for the face-painter. You don't need to have great artistic skills to become a face-painter and people will always spend money on making their kids happy. If you look out for parties, local events and maybe set up a Facebook page/website you could make a nice annual profit.

Stay Connected When Away From the Office - 3 Tips to Still Being Relevant When Away From Work

Remaining relevant in a workplace that does not currently have a positive mindset about employees working from home can be difficult but with any change, once presented to management properly with the positives and cost savings that can be provided to a company, more human resource departments are looking to expand on the idea of allowing employees to work from home even if one or two days per week.

Just because you have won the battle to work from home does not mean that it all ends there, you still have to push to be relevant and on the minds of your managers due to the lack of face to face interaction with your colleagues. Here are some tips to getting that done:

1) Best way of communicating to colleagues and the boss - Before setting up shop at home, discuss with the people back in the office what is the easiest way for them to keep in touch. Some prefer the telephone, others email or instant messaging and honestly some will only prefer face to face meetings. For the face to face meetings, find out if video conferencing is an acceptable substitute. The point is that you have to make it easy for people to want to communicate with you and share information. Unfortunately, if you are not comfortable with all these forms of communication, it is best to spend time learning these technologies before pushing to work from home.

2) Take the reins in setting goals and meeting deadlines - Your colleagues might believe that because you are away from the office that you might not be as serious as prioritizing the company's work and meeting deadlines. Instead, do the exact opposite, make sure that you are even more deadline oriented and are the one pushing your colleagues to meet various goals. They will see that although you are not physically present your presence is still definitely felt.

3) Go to the office at least a couple times a week - True, this goes against the decision of working from home but no one says that you have to work from home every day of the week. Drop in the office, clear your desk of any papers that colleagues might have left, pass by the cubicles of your co-workers and see if they put up any new family photos or treats that they are sharing and genuinely stop and ask how their day is going.

There are many other ways to remaining relevant when away from the office and you have to tailor each for your office scenario but simply observe and adapt to suit each situation.

3 Vital Pieces of Beekeeping Clothing

One of the most important parts of beekeeping is making sure you have the correct specialist equipment needed. Whether you are building your hive or trying to remove honey, having the right gear can make the job easier and safer. Inspecting the bees is a vital role of the beekeeper, and to do this correctly you will need a few pieces of beekeeping clothing.

Suit - All beekeepers, whether they are novices of professionals, should wear a suit when checking their bees. The suits are thick enough to ensure that the stingers of the bees do not hit the skin of the keeper, whilst being light enough for the keeper to move freely and easily. A good suit should also be light in color to ensure that the bees do not confuse their keeper with their natural predators, such as bears. Suits must also be washed and cleaned after every visit to the hive. Bee stingers that are left in the suits can encourage other bees to attack with the release of powerful chemicals and pheromones and must be removed before further visits to the hive.

Hat and veil - Bees can be particularly attracted to the face and mouth where warm breath is released. To protect against this, most beekeepers wear a veil over the face which is attached to a large brimmed hat. It is also harder to remove stingers from the neck and face without the use of a mirror, whereas stings in other areas can be batted away with the hands.

Gloves - Beekeepers use their hands a lot while maintaining and checking on the hive, so it is a good idea to wear gloves to protect them while they are exposed. The gloves are thick and lightweight, again to ensure that bees' stingers can not penetrate to the skin below. However, many beekeepers find that wearing gloves can be restrictive when they are performing certain tasks such as removing combs from the hive. At this point they may take them off, but you should only really do this if you are an experience beekeeper. Covering your hands in vinegar should also help keep the bees away.

How To Start a Face Painting Home Business

If you have a passion and love for face painting, I would encourage you to take it a step further by generating some nice passive income through it. There is really only one prerequisite, and that is love for the art. If you are just going in for the money, it is likely that you would throw it the towel just before the money rolls in.

So how do you set up a face painting home business?

The following steps are essential, though not exhaustive:

Basic Skills and Techniques

Obviously you need to acquire a reasonable face painting standard before you can display your skills in public. If you are just starting out, the key to getting good at it is simply to paint something every day. There is no shortcut to success, unfortunately. Even if you can only spare 15 minutes a day, paint something. You must work on your skills and techniques every day until you achieve an intermediate to professional standard.

You Don't Need To Be A Professional

I have attended numerous birthday parties and I have observed the works of many face painters. Let me tell you, most of them are at best average in what they do. So let this be an encouragement to you. You see, you don't have to play in a national team before you can coach a basketball team. As long as you put in your passion and dedicated work, your will achieve more than the average person.

To date, I have yet to come across any kids or parents complaining about the face painters at the parties I attended. These people are often in the celebration mode and tend to be very forgiving, unless you really screw up. So, if your inner voice is telling you that you are not good enough, don't listen it! Declare out loud that you are a good face painter and everybody in the party is going to like what you do. Say this a thousand times if you need to overcome the negativity and fear.

This is a very important mindset to running a successful face painting business.

Ways To Publicize Your Face Painting Business

Until you become a professional or a well-known figure in where you live, you need to go out to get the business:

Set up a website - This is the very basic advertising tool you will need. Today, you can easily setup a free website in blog styles using WordPress or blogspot directories. Go get it registered.

Business cards - I am sure you meet people every week, and there is always someone who will ask what you do. Having some business cards with you at all times is crucial. Remember to bring them to the parties or events where you are painting as well. This is because people will come up to you and ask for your contact information. This is where you generate more business. The more parties you do, the more new referrals you will get.

Broadcast it - Tell your family members, friends, church members, your mechanic, your hair stylists and so on. Never be shy to tell people what you do, and give them your calling card if they ask for it.

YouTube it - Record some of your face painting sessions and put it on YouTube. Remember to leave your website address along with contact information on it. This is a very powerful advertising avenue, yet it is free!

Above are just some simple tips to help you get started with a Face Painting Business. I wish you success in this lovely and interesting field. For more information, check out the resources.

Is That the Phone?

Time was, the only technological connection was a phone, not pulled from your pocket but attached to the wall. Don't even get me started on the whole world having the same ring tone.

Even in the Dark Ages the trick to stay connected (assuming you could write and moved outside your village) was to have a little black book (LBB) with contacts. See it's older than you think and not just about the girlfriends. Segue to the 20th Century and these were contacts you guarded with your life and occasionally attacked with whiteout when someone fell off your radar. In today's technology, the more contacts you have, the more connected you are and the more important you become as a networker.

Metcalf's Law stated that the value of the network increases with the number of nodes (beats me) on the network. Okay, so Bob Metcalf invented the Ethernet, which enabled computers to be wired together to become a network. A pre Apple example would be the fax. A single fax is useless, so the more faxes the more effective the network.

So the more people I have on my network the more valuable it is along with the greater productivity I gain via increased communication savings. No, Uncle Bob doesn't count unless he can get you a foot in the door.

We used to fly to stay connected but now we surf.

What does this mean to the travel industry? Does the average travel agent realise the urgency in finding new avenues of connection and communication? The airlines and online players certainly do and they'll take as many clients off the agents as they can, via aggregated booking tools, social commerce sites, frequent flyer initiatives and any new net solutions they can find.

The agency network needs to realise it is selling, no matter how you do it, by phone, face to face, email or on the net. You cannot hope to increase your face to face interactions with only a finite number of hours in the day. That LBB needs to be transferable to all avenues so that agents retain their relevance while increasing their connections in the face of stiff opposition.

Don't be Rolling Stone Magazine. They should have realised the change coming and become MTV, and yet they didn't.

Find new relevance in new channels to reconnect and nurture those connections and don't be afraid to communicate your views. It would be unusual, not to find everyone of importance, to your business, on the net.

Hey I just found Kevin Bacon on Linked In, talk about six degrees.

Now about that global ring?

MLM Marketing - Conventional Vs New-Fashioned?

How many advert signs do you pick up these days that proclaim as if Internet or online marketing has really gotten the better of the conventional face-to-face, in person marketing? I really can't understand the thing that is in circulation right now, thanks to several crooked Internet marketers who in order to campaign their product/service downplay the original benefits of offline MLM. Some of that bunch has even gone to an extent to sound out that the conventional type MLM business is nearly obsolete now. Needless to say that the integrity and sovereignty of the old-fashioned technique will remain intact, unscathed, healthy and widely used; come what may.

Due to lack of marketing skills, one should not blame the inefficiency of an old system in particular parts and write it off totally. Probably, the fear of repeated failures and the shortage of marketing know-how would have played a lot with the emotions of these new-age marketers who keep belittling the image of the face-to-face marketing.

When it comes to a human chain based activity, which drives MLM business, personal communication and in the flesh interaction is mandatory as well indispensable. Certainly as a network marketer some of your associates working downline to you might not like being in front of the computer every time. Especially if he happens to be an extrovert type and if he happens to while away majority of his working hours being in front of the computer then he can rest assured that he is going against his desire. Certainly he will feel a bit constrained and shackled a tad, to boot. Thus, it might affect him both theoretically and pragmatically thus affecting his performance and the profit measures he is expected to bring forth, in return. So, what precisely you have to offer your recruits? My suggestion would be apt when you extend a wide range of support and tasks that are apposite to their personality and dexterity.

In the current era, a company needs to have a bit of both online MLM and offline MLM in order to make a clear sign about its existence both in the virtual world and in their local territory. We have been discussing on things that are totally related to finding a medium of selling and promoting goods. So, one must not bring the problem of the product being too poor to be marketed and other such fundamental issues can be rightly overlooked. In a nutshell I would want you to know how important it is to have your workers work under a comfort zone so as to pull off the results that you need them to achieve.
