Don't 'Just Do It'! Think About It First 2

This is the second in a series of two articles; the first challenges you to reconsider the popular slogan and philosophy, which simplistically states "just do it". This article illustrates with practical examples why "Just doing it", may not be such a good idea, particularly when it comes to starting an online business from home.

Think first then do: Shooting

Let me share with you how I learnt this lesson. I had the privilege in the Army of being instructed by the World Pistol Shooting Champion. He told us a story that I have not forgotten, it went something like this. There was a contact made with the enemy. Terrorist insurgents were surprised by a platoon of soldiers patrolling through the bush. The terrorists ran away, down a fire-break (an open strip of land used to prevent fires from spreading), which happened to be nearby. Several soldiers in pursuit ran after them shooting as they ran (they acted before thinking). One soldier (who thought before acting), ran across the clearing to the other side to avoid shooting his own men. He knelt down, steadied his rifle on his knee, took aim and fired 5 times. The result was that 5 Terrorists were killed, 4 by this soldier and one by all the others.

Think first then do: Painting

Another anecdote from a very different context illustrates the same point. A great artist was commissioned many months in advance to paint a mural on a national monument that was required for the opening ceremony on a particular date. Just weeks before the deadline, nothing appeared to have been done. When challenged about this, the artist was unperturbed, saying that 90% of the work was in the planning and had been done in his mind, actually applying the paint was the simple part that could easily be performed in a matter of days.

Think first then do: Business

In the business context, one of the all time best sellers of business literature is a book by a man called Napoleon Hill. It is called Think and Grow Rich and was first published in 1937. The title pretty much reveals the content; i.e. use your brain, if you want to become rich! Besides those that have won lotteries etc. most wealthy people can testify to having used their brains or at least having had good ideas that they then proceeded to put into action.

Think first then do: Internet Entrepreneur

You want to earn money, right? Well before you rush off hastily after the best idea that you can find, why not pause and first consider an important issue that will affect how you intend to earn money for the rest of your life. "No time", you say. Well if you don't have time to think before you 'act', you are likely to waste a lot of time acting when you could have avoided it by thinking first. If you narrow the range of what you are looking for by thinking first, then you will not waste time finding opportunities you later change your mind about (because you did not think enough before you began). You could have used that time far more effectively to make more money in less time. As we have seen, this is true in many areas of life.

When you have no time to think

There may be exceptional times when one really does not have time to think, in such instances, one can only be guided by one's instincts, however one's instincts will already have been honed by one's character and past behaviour. Just don't make the exception, the rule.

How to make an income online was a problem that was really bugging me when I started out. I knew I wanted to do "something " on this web, but I had really no clue how or where to start. A problem you might recognize.

Let me try to help you out here. This is all you need to get started:

- domain name
- hosting account
- website
- niche
- auto responder
- right mindset

Now you probably think: "That all sounds obvious, tell me something I do not know", but between you and me, a lot of people do NOT know this - I did not know, at least not at first.

So what do all these words mean?

The domain name is the name of your website, while the hosting account is needed for having your website published on the worldwide web. You will need a website to promote the niche you will be working in. This does not mean the site has to be fancy - a simple one-page-site can be enough.

Now, the niche is something different and deciding what niche you want to be in, is something you might think through very well. First find a market that spends money, then what people want within that market, the niche, and give it to them. If you do not have your own product to sell, you can become an affiliate. An affiliate is nothing more than someone selling other peoples products and getting a percentage of the price for doing that.

My advice to you is not trying to work in too many niches and sticking to those you actually like yourself.

You will be needing an auto responder for building your list. And, this can not be said often enough: The money is made in the list!

It all comes down to people coming to your website and signing up to your list. We often do that by giving away Free Products to get people signing up. Once having a list, promote to your list. I know there are other techniques, but I think this is the best way.

And last, but certainly not least, THE RIGHT MINDSET!

Learn and understand what you need to know, then implement this knowledge into your business and do stay focused! Do not get off track by fear or others not believing in your way of doing things.
Remember the most successful people are those nobody believed in!

Find The Way That Is Right For You And - Just Get On And Do It!

I think we all know this one, and I think it is called procrastination! Yes guilty as charged! How do we super charge our self to finally just get on and do it!

We do this in all areas of our lives, but in the home business, or internet business I am positive it is worse!

There is so much to learn and so many avenues to travel, not to mention how many mentors to follow! We spend far too much time thinking maybe we should try another way, or we need to get this or that in place first! We struggle to learn as much as we possibly can, and we think we need to know about all these different avenues! Wow, when will we ever start?

Let's Get to Grips!

In this business we all do this, usually when we are just starting out. We seem to figure that we need to know everything, and there are not many coaches who will actually tell you that you do not need to know everything! It is overwhelming and mind-boggling! Unfortunately, at the moment we cannot go to school and learn the basics first!

We can see clearly the opportunity and we are so excited, we know that this can work we can feel it! But we cannot decide where to start! It is like being a kid again and going into a sweet shop, how on earth do you decide? They all look so good!

I have to say with my experience I wish someone would create a basic guide for the complete novice and show them just how to get going, and then we can look at other avenues! Don't we remember how to walk before we run?

With hind sight, I think it would be perfect and easy if someone just told us that?

Too much Information!

There is simply too much information out there with no apprenticeship! We run around like headless chickens and end up knowing a little about a lot! Well that will get us no-where! So now what? Now we start again! Yep, we have a little knowledge that gives us a clue about what we think is the best route for us!

So Here's How!

This is only what I believe, and we all learn differently, but if you are new to this game, or you are thinking of venturing in, then this would be my humble advise!

Set yourself some sort of program, kind of difficult when you are unsure of what you have to learn, so set your first target of allowing yourself time to research different ways. Decide that you will do nothing and you will buy nothing until you have made a decision on which path you will take! Watch different videos by different mentors, listen to their ideas, do you think you could learn from them? Do they speak your language? By that I mean, you will not understand how it is all done, but do you resonate with them, do you think you will grasp their method? Do they speak clearly to you? And do you like what they have done themselves.

Do you like writing? Maybe you could choose a program that teaches you about blogging and article writing, perhaps you are more drawn to video's, you could have a video blog. There are many choices, try to pick something that you feel you may be able to do without too much trouble, you can get into the bigger stuff later!

Try to decide on a program or a mentor and make up your mind that you will to stick with it, do not change your mind half way in, see it through to the end, do as you are guided to do and don't be tempted to look at anything else until you have learnt this one way.

Do Not Get Overwhelmed!

If you feel it is all too much, break away, give yourself a rest! This is a brand new thing you are learning, it is a business, you will not learn over night! Give your self a fair chance at this! Take your time and learn one way!

When you decide on your first method, stick with it, don't get sidetracked, stay with it until you have become good at it!

Here's the thing - all the methods work, but you have to apply yourself to it and don't think -"oh this isn't working I need to try something else"! This attitude will always keep you at the starting block!!

In this business, as in life, there is not just one path to success, there are many, find something that you FEEL is right for you and don't stray! What works for one may not work for another.

You will discover with experience that most ways do work if you apply yourself!

When you think of marketing, what emotions come up for you?

New Year is when people usually make resolutions and if you are thinking about starting an online career this is a good opportunity.
