What to Do on Internet

Everyone is getting hooked up on a computer and Internet and the rate at which computer literacy and Internet penetration is increasing in developing countries, more and more people are getting into the online groove. The next question that comes up is what is that one can do on Internet, how does one passes time on Internet?

Well, if you ask an Internet expert, an endless list can be pulled about the things to do over the Internet. But, a lot depends on the literacy level, time availability and the mood of the person.

Learn Something New

If you want to learn about new things, websites and encyclopedias like about.com, Wikipedia, eHow could be really great. One can not even imagine that such websites could cover almost each and every topic that you can think about. You can find about a book, a movie, a star, a company, a concept... you name it and it would be there.

Connect with the World

A saying that I learned in school said "Human being is a social animal" and indeed we all want to connect with people and Internet is one of the easiest way to connect. Wouldnt you love it if you could chat with a school time friend whom you lost touch with... well, websites like Orkut, Facebook, Twitter, Myspace provides you a chance to not only interact with your friends online but connect with almost everyone online.

Like Playing Games;)

One of the best things one can do online is play games online. There are tons and tons of gaming websites, gaming applications that are available via Facebook. Whether it is Contra, Mario, Racing Game, Poker, Rummy, Scrabble, Chess, Pool etc every such game that you must have played physically with friends and family is available online. Not only this, with websites like rel=nofollow [http://www.games24x7.com]Games24x7.com you can play online card games and win cash prizes too So, its a two fold benefit, quick time pass by playing a game that you know and make money online.

Whats up with the Globe?

If you want to know whats going on with the world around you, simply log on to a news website like NYtimes, business website like Wall Street Journal, Entertainment website like People. You will not only get international news, but also local news that too in regional language on topics like politics, sports, crime, business, technology and entertainment.

Are you a book worm?

If you are the one who has a book by his side every-time, Internet is the place for you to get the electronic versions of almost every book that gets published today. There are websites who offer free ebooks, there are websites who offer paid versions of too. You can literally find millions of books on a single topic on the Internet. Now, would you find a million book on a single topic elsewhere... I guess not.

Honestly, I would not compare the activities that you do physically with activities that you would do online because whatever you may do online, there is no match to playing sports, hiking, walking, jogging, traveling etc. With the social element that the online activities like social networking, [http://www.games24x7.com]online card games offer, passing time over the Internet is really easy and fun.

Katya Amerson is a business analyst and is learning the art of blogging and writes about the latest technologies, gadgets, movies, sports and is a card games expert and enjoys playing online card games.

Is Now a Good Time to Start a Home Business?

Starting a Home Business in a Downward Economy

As a result of the current economic situation, many people are out of work or fearing they may be out of work and are now considering what other options may be out there for them. One alternative that may come to mind is whether this is a good time to start a home based business. Many people dream of working for themselves but the security of a job prevents many from taking the plunge. When that security is gone or at risk, it is a good time to consider other options. There can definitely be arguments either way, but this could be a great time to get a new business off the ground if you are motivated and prepared to make it a success.

One reason is that in tough economic times, small businesses have a benefit over large companies because they are able to adjust to economic conditions easier than large corporations. They can add services and products, change marketing techniques and cut back on expenses without having to go through the corporate red tape, thus slowing the implementation process.

If you are thinking about a home business but aren't sure what type of business might be right for you, make an inventory of your skills, interests, experience and expertise as well as a list of what you truly love to do. Using those two factors, you can begin to discover what type of businesses may fit with your qualifications and passions.

Here are some ideas of start-up businesses that can be started with little cost:

On-line store: As long as you can get a website built, you can sell products without having to invest in inventory. This is done by drop shipping items directly from the vendor. To start, pick a theme, whether it is children's clothes, candles, gift items, etc. You can then contact wholesalers who sell wholesale and see if they will drop ship items. You can then list them for sale on your website and when an order is placed, you collect the money from the customer, the vendor will ship the product, and you pay the vendor.

As long as you are able to negotiate a good wholesale price with the vendor and you have a reasonable mark-up on the item, you will make a profit with little overhead. The most difficult aspect of this type of business will be marketing the website and providing competitive prices.

Virtual Assistant: If you have previous experience as an executive or administrative assistant, there are many people looking to hire a support person on an as-needed basis. As the rate of small businesses increase, the need for outsourcing will increase, especially for those with administrative skills.

Sales Representative: There are a variety of businesses that have evolved as a result of a product invention. The business owners had the creativity and persistence to develop a product, however, many do not have the time or experience in getting the product to retailers. As a sales representative, you could create a portfolio of products to bring to retailers.

Home Staging Counselor: The real estate market is facing an extremely tough time. Homes are selling at prices well below levels from a year ago as well as staying on the market longer. Therefore, it is more important than ever for people to have their homes in selling condition to get the most money as well as a quick sale. A home stager can team up with a real estate agent or office to help their clients get their homes in top showing condition.

Couponing for Direct Marketing

Introduction: Direct marketing refers to the practice of marketing or advertising goods and services by communicating with end customers directly. This may be done with the help of promotional letters, fliers, street advertising, distribution of catalogues and coupons. Coupons are generally distributed directly to the customers and form an essential part of effective direct marketing.

Procedure: The readers are encouraged to cut and present coupons in the store issuing them for availing the discount associated with them. Coupons can be used almost for all types of services or products such as meals, clothes, electronic stuff and so on.

Effectiveness of coupons: Coupons have proved to be highly effective to generate a considerable amount of pull. As per a study by Advertising Age, referred to as the Bible of advertising, over 80% of shoppers have used coupons and feel that these are highly effective in increasing sales.

A.C. Nielson Co., which is a premier marketing research firm, did a similar study and came up with some interesting conclusions. As per this study, over 90% of shoppers of a certain sample size admitted to their like for coupons and over half of them admitted that they look for coupons regularly. As per Wall Street Journal, when there is slide in a region, the residents increase use of coupons, thereby giving a push to the overall economy.

In fact, marketers all over the globe like couponing for some interesting reasons. Coupons tend to increase and expand market area of every marketer pretty easily. It is quite common to see customers traveling long distances for redeeming such coupons which seem to be decent bargains. A marketer can entice customers of his or her customers to shop at his or her shop instead of that of a competitor. Besides that, old customers can also be encouraged to shop again at a particular store instead of shifting loyalty to a competitor.

To make winning coupons:
Highlighting discounts, bonuses and premiums offered with coupons can prove to be great in terms of attracting customers. As per a popular saying 'a picture is worth a thousand words'. Illustrations and real photographs, if applicable, can be highly effective in creation of a desire and enhance understanding.

Conclusion:
Couponing has been around for a while and has proved to be an extremely successful direct marketing method. Their regular use can ensure addition of a number of customers apart from generating some good quality leads.

Making Space For a Spouse While Working From Home

I admire couples who can work from home together and not strangle each other by the end of the day. It's not that I'm unreasonable, bitchy or territorial (at least not all of the time), but there's no way I could stand to share an office with a spouse. Period.

Part of the reason is that I'm from a family of five kids which makes me want my own space, my own supplies and as much privacy as possible. My site is called Working Naked, after all.

The other part is that too much of a good thing can be bad. You may adore your spouse but if you spend every day and night with him or her, you may drain the fun out of your business and your relationship.

If you're still willing to work with your spouse, there are a few ways to keep the peace so no one considers hiring a hit man by closing time.

Buy duplicate supplies. No one likes to reach for a stapler and realize it's on someone else's desk or in another room. Get creative and buy two sets of office supplies in different colors.
Use separate equipment. There's nothing wrong with cutting costs, but sharing a computer to save money will cost you in the long run. Whether you use a desktop and your spouse uses a laptop, each of you should have your own equipment. If neither one of you needs to print often, share a printer.
Leave the room when you need to take a call. Unless you can talk quietly and not bother your spouse while he or she is in the office, leave the room. Anyway, it's good to get away from your desk throughout the day.
Use separate desks. Whether you install a long counter with two workspaces or use two desks, keep them away from each other.
Stay in your own territory. If you and your spouse have different working styles, a neat freak spouse doesn't want to find stacks of paper on his or her desk. Keep your piles to yourself. If you're the pack rat spouse and like to work with papers piled everywhere, your picky spouse may drive you nuts when he or she tries to straighten the piles or convince you to toss everything.
Compromise on the temperature. You may like the office to be as cold as a meat locker, but not everyone likes to wear three sweaters, a hat and gloves to work. Consider using a fan for your side of the room and keep the thermostat at a reasonable temperature.I'm a firm believer in everyone working together, but not always in the same space.

Conventional Formats Work

Books have a lot in common, regardless of the writer, content, or publisher. The covers are of sturdier weight than the inner pages. There's a title page. Some credits on the reverse side, or on the next page. Maybe a dedication by the author. If appropriate, there's a table of contents next. If there's an introduction, it follows. And if there's an index, it's at the back of the book. So why not be creative? Put the index up front and the table of contents at the end? Why not?

Habits Are Helpful

We are all creatures of habit. In fact we benefit from them. What a chore it would be to get out of bed in the morning and get to work if we had to think our way through each step, and be sure we did not overlook one. We need our habits. And we don't want to change them. A book with a title page at the end of it would be unsettling.

Conformity Is The Rule

The form and format of most magazines is even more consistent, and rigid. Would a magazine be successful with classified ads up front and letters to the editor at the end of it? Newspapers are even more similar, one to another. The emphasis is on the first fold that shows on the newsstand. Headline creation is a major task. The way stories are written is the same, with the key points up front in case the reader does not continue. Take a look at your bookcase. Hardbound books are pretty much the same in height. Paperbacks are even more likely to be nearly identical in this regard. You can generally mingle pages from different newspapers and find the edges are pretty well aligned. And what about the type font? In 9 of 10 cases, it will be Times Roman, or a close cousin. And the printed text is bound to be black on white.

Rigid Uniformity

Publishers of books, magazines, and newspapers follow conventions relentlessly. Why? They want their readers to focus on the content, not the logistics of getting around in the publication. And content is the only significant difference between competing books, magazines, or newspapers. Since competition is really a contest between contents, publishers do not want deviation elsewhere that might interfere with the impact of that content.

Web Publishers Must Follow Suit

The conventions for a website are also clearly defined. Fast loading pages that are easy to read. A navigation scheme that is crystal clear in a glance. The same format on every page. The same format? Hey, that's boring! Maybe. But it is conventional. As with printed publications, let nothing on your site detract from content. It works for the "Wall Street Journal," "The Atlantic Monthly," and Random House. And it works for other successful newspaper, magazine, and book publishers. It also works on a website. Let nothing in your pages detract from content. Then beat the competition with that content, It's the only way to go.

Internet Freedom - Pakistan, China, Turkey, Iran, Syria, US, and Iceland - Let's Communicate!

Obviously, Iran restricts social networks now due to the uprising during their last elections and it doesn't want anyone Twittering, or posting to MySpace, FaceBook, or other locations online. They've even been so bold as to use microwaves to block satellite TV coming from the US and other places. Censorship online and in the media is alive and well throughout the world.

Recently on a US-Syrian trade mission to open up those markets to US companies and to insure that Syria does not interfere with the Iranian economic sanctions the US has made headway on Syrian Internet Censorship, but due to the Islamic nature of the culture there are things they refuse to allow in their nation. We are still trying to persuade them to open things up more.

A recent article in the Wall Street Journal might be interesting to read; "Pakistan, Turkey Expand Internet Restrictions," by Tom Wright, Marc Champion, and Amir Efrati explains the blocking of Internet sites, ISPs, and how Google removes content from China, India, and other nations, and how YouTube restricts its showing in Thailand when it might insult the King! This is must read article for those studying censorship of the Internet.

Still, I must tell you I've had in-depth dialogues with academics and media folks in Pakistan, and they claim their reasons for blocking various Internet sites is due to pornography, child predators, financial fraud, and anti-Pakistani content.

China wants to prevent Internet addiction, and even has Internet Addiction Boot Camps, one was actually overrun by its prisoners months ago. We also know about the censorship issue in China with Google, and they don't want embarrassing information about Tiananmen Square or other anti-government content. In fact, much of China's ability to control their masses, yes 1.3 Billion People they attribute to controlling the minds of the people through the mass media, and the Internet challenges such things.

Iceland recently voted to become a free-zone for Internet journalists, offering to protect them, after WikiLeaks Founder promised to release thousands of videos of US Military footage, and you can bet that they will only post items that put the US in a bad light, not the sort of thing that is good for America. Such an action and bias slant online would be akin to Al Jazeera's anti-Israel slant, and no one needs that. Maybe it is time we all looked at the realities of Internet Censorship and put things into perspective, please think on this.

Home Based Business - Why Your Customers Will Cut You Off at the Knees If You Fail to Do This Right

Jason made the mistake of thinking that it was going to take years. Let me tell you why he was dead wrong.

Jason was only 24 years old when he decided to get his insurance license.

Like his uncle Doug, Jason wanted to someday run his own insurance firm and have other people work for him. That's why Jason didn't hesitate to become part of his uncle Doug's insurance agency. He wanted to hit the ground running and learn everything about the insurance business quickly.

There is no question that Jason had the enthusiasm and willingness to do whatever was necessary to build a successful insurance business. But, just like your home based business, making it big sometimes means taking a different path.

Most new insurance agents make a list of all their family, friends and neighbors. These are usually the first people new agents contact in order to make their first sales. In Jason's case----this was NOT to be his approach.

Fortunately, Jason's uncle Doug made a very smart move. Doug made Jason his business partner and really took him under his wing. Rather than spend years trying to get through the "bottom of the pile" and compete with other agents looking to sell policies to the average everyday stranger, Doug had a better plan for Jason.

It is clearly evident that, you don't have to spend years trying to "work your way up the ladder" and hope that all that work leads you to a successful career. The fact is, you and your home based business---just like Jason----can start at the top.

We can all agree, that this is a unique idea for your home based business.

But, don't fool yourself. You are still going to have to work long and hard to be successful.

Jason's goal was to sell insurance to affluent business owners only. And with the help he got from his uncle Doug, Jason was on the "fast track". Here is what Jason learned that you need to apply to your own home based business if you want to be successful.

Obviously, if you want to have a home based business built with team members that are already successful making a minimum of $100,000 in their regular businesses, this is what you must do otherwise they will rip you apart and cut you off at the knees.

Think of the team members for your home based business as your customers. You will have "no credibility" trying to recruit them if you don't read the same periodicals they read, watch the same TV shows and read the same books. If they read the Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Investor's Business Daily and Fortune Magazine-----you better be doing exactly the same thing.

Don't lose your chance to be like Jason and build your home based business from day one with affluent team members. Get to understand your market, work it hard, be honest and you will gain the respect of affluent team members.

Try to fake it or take short cuts and your customers will know it. They will chop you off at the knees.

How to Work at Home With a Home Based Business Online

The world has changed a lot over the past generation and jobs are not as reliable as they once were. This is why I think now is a time that offers huge opportunity. The internet has become a staple for people buying products and services and this has opened up a whole new industry called internet marketing. The great news is that it is an industry that anyone can join from new moms to corporate CEOs who are tired of the rat race.

Home based business online

Internet marketing is where you promote someone else's product or service and if you generate a sale or a lead you are paid a commission.

Anyone who is interested can begin internet marketing and the advantages are that there is no selling (you are just connecting a person with an offer), there is no inventory to store, no sales calls to make and no meetings to attend. The downside is that you must move through a learning curve. Because you are entering an industry that is in its infancy there is no formal education such as a college course so every successful internet marketer has moved through a learning curve and has had to learn to accept some failures during the growth process. I actually see this as an advantage because if you are highly motivated to make internet marketing work you will while many of your competitors will drop out.

I do however recommend that you find a mentor. Because there are so many people in internet marketing and so many avenues for making money online it is easy to stray from your path and try to do too much at one time only to find you are the master of nothing.

There are some great teachers starting to emerge from the crowd. I personally like Jeremy Schoemaker. He is the "poster boy" for Google, was asked to be a consultant for Dell and AT&T and was interviewed by ABC News 20/20, Good Morning America and the Wall Street Journal. In other words he is reputable which is important but I also like him because he caters to the newbie so he doesn't leave questions unanswered like many teachers who assume you know what they are talking about.

Are you looking for a reputable [http://www.online-cash-cows.com/]home based business opportunity?

Here is a no pressure place to learn the core skills needed to [http://www.online-cash-cows.com/]make money from home and online.

Hi everyone, my name is Erin Kelly and I have been making money online for the past two years. At first I searched Google for tips and tricks and felt lost. Things did not start clicking until I started to follow a system. I think the internet is an open door to anyone looking to make more money and enjoy the freedom of working from home.

The Reality of Starting a Home Based Business

Questions to Ask Yourself Before Diving In

Many dream of starting their own business to gain flexibility with family and independence from the corporate structure and politics. Today, it also is a financial savings when not forking over a fortune to fill the gas tank, buy an expensive wardrobe and pay those high daycare expenses. However, before jumping headfirst into starting a business, it is important to take a reality check and answer a few questions - honestly.

Being your own boss takes a lot of discipline. Even though your goal may be to gain flexibility, it might not be a reality right off the bat. This is due to the number of hours required to get the business off the ground combined with the fact there may be insufficient income to outsource or bring on a staff. So ask yourself, Are you able and willing to put in the countless hours it takes to get a business off the ground?

Also, can you afford to lose your current salary and put out extra money for the initial start-ups costs? It could be one to three years before you to start make a positive return and months before you start making any income at all. Also, if you had health benefits in your current position, do you have another means of obtaining insurance on your own or are you covered by your spouse?

One solution is that you may consider working full or part time while you start your business. Once you begin bringing in regular income, you can cut back or leave your job.

Here's another question to ask yourself. Do you have a support network to help you get through the low times - because there will be many? This would include your immediate family and/or a group of other entrepreneurs that have experience walking this same path.

Before getting too deep into the start of your business, it is important to check with your insurance agent to see if you are covered under your homeowner's policy. It might exclude you having business traffic in your home. Another area to check is with your homeowners association, which may also exclude you operating a business out of your home. These two factors could end your decision to start a home based business before you invest any more time or money.

If you need guidance selecting or starting your business, you may want to check out these additional resources:

 myownbusiness.com
 sba.gov/smallbusinessplanner/index.html
 score.org

Working for oneself and having the ability to do it from home is a fabulous opportunity for the right person, but not everyone is cut out for it. The most important question to ask yourself is whether or not you truly LOVE doing your business idea. If you are doing it because you think it is just a good business idea but you do not love what you are doing, it will end up being a miserable endeavor because it will be all consuming and you may struggle to make it successful.

So if you are resistant to change, take heart and know that each of these tools are easy to use and will ultimately make your business more efficient and hopefully more effective.
