Not many people really use them and just hope that everything will turn out OK. However, you needn't be a statistics geek to get the best out of them for your business.

There are 3 ways to use them without hardly seeing them as numbers at all.

What are those 3 ways?

Number one is to use them to hold yourself accountable. When you have a job, someone else holds you responsible, is that right? But that's the very reason you want to be independent in your own business, so there's no boss breathing down your neck. In that case you have to hold yourself accountable that the work you're doing in your business is efficient and effective. The numbers tell you that. For example, if you're driving traffic to a website you can check how many visitors you're getting, how long they stay and how many conversions you get, for the traffic method you're using. You can then adjust, tweak and make improvements depending on the numbers.

Number two is following up from the first point. You can't know what really works unless you can measure it. If you guess you'll most likely be wrong. See what's working and do more of it. What's not working can be dropped. Remember that only 20%, or some other small figure, of your efforts will produce most of your positive results. You need the numbers to see which ones they are.

Number three is that even content marketing needs to be measured by numbers. Bloggers, emailers and article writers, for example, may think all they have to do is to create great content and all will be well. But without figures, like number of readers, you're just guessing if the market thinks any piece is great content. Only the judgment of your market matters.
