This is a wealth of knowledge that simply must be tapped into. Whatever opportunity you are pursuing, make sure it comes with a quality mentor.

You can read as many books as you like, but real life experience will trump book knowledge any day of the week. Plus, it is quite difficult to get any feedback from the bounded papers. A good mentor will help you see your business from different angles and offer suggestions that you might not have considered. In my early days, there were certain things that my mentor simply said, "This must be done." Even though I did not understand what the importance was, as I continued doing the work and gained a greater understanding of how the whole picture fit together, I became more appreciate of the early guidance I was given.

INSPIRATION

This is invaluable. Regardless of how strong willed anyone is, when pursuing something new there are going to be challenges. Having a mentor to qualify those difficulties and to help define them as speed bumps and obstacles that can be overcome helps to put things in perspective. This seems obvious, but having someone there can really help you get back on track as quickly as possible and regain focus.

This goes along with the previous messages, but having a road map helps to set the small goals that are necessary to keep you driven. To see that specific actions have resulted in specific results is extremely valuable, and to see them materialize only increases the drive and desire to achieve the next goal.
