Building a website is just like building a normal offline business. The first year is the vital period of it's survival. Many early mistakes were made and hurts its true potential. Gradually the mistakes became a natural habits. In this case the business or the website became the victim. When things do not go as it suppose to go, the owner of the business will finally close down the business or the website.
That is the normal exit strategy. Sometime its the best solution and sometime it is not. What do I mean of it? Like myself, I have to close a $30,000 business investment. Is it the right decision. For me, Yes it is at the time. Actually if I keep on running the business I'll be ending up with mountain of debt. Maybe if I keep hanging on the business might pick up and eventually be a successful business. We'll never know. In my case the risk IS TOO HIGH. I cannot afford it.
It is a risk one has to take. The best decision is to cut the loss and close down to avoid incurring more unnecessary cost. One, poor keyword research. Common mistakes of those sites that don't make it is poor keyword research. Many users go with keywords that is "too broad". Why "too broad" keywords won't work? Simple. The competition is too severe. What do we do? Go to sites that are in your general category see and review how their META keywords tag in their Title, Headline, body content are targeted. (do a VIEW > SOURCE in your browser on each page) META Keywords are not that important for ranking anymore but it does offer insight on how the sites specific keywords are viewed. Try narrowing your niche. Re do your site's tighter theme over a period of time and watch traffic grow. My tips is to choose the right keywords.
Two, too many awful content, meaning don't have enough quality content. What is good? What is bad? Overwhelmed? You don't have to do it all in an instance. That is why most people felt overwhelmed. It's normal, people always want for everything to be done immediately. When you go too fast you will crash and burn. What you have to do is stop and relax for a while. Take it slowly. We'll cross the river when we get there. You'll be amazed at how far you go. Write enough to cover each topic well because short pages don't work with Google.
Three, website owners seldom analyze and completely neglected their keywords usage in their webpages. Invest a lot of time and energy getting your home page "POWERFUL". Always think of it as a work in progress. Five' there is no optimal internal & external linking, meaning some website owners either miss the importance of internal linking. How do I do this? Always go for a simple way for both your human visitors and Search Engine spiders to explore your site. By including the Specific Keyword in an internal text link, you gain additional Search Engine ranking points for meeting "on-page" criteria.
So for example, this TIER 2 page (Specific Keyword = "chilli fertilizer") links back up to the home page (Site Concept = "grow your own chilli") using this text link near the bottom of the page... "Return from Chilli Fertilizer to Grow your own Chilli" For a TIER 3 page, use 2 links - a link back to its parent TIER 2 page AND a link back to the home page. The tip is to always optimize your site's internal linking. Use the keywords in your text links when linking back up from TIER 2 and TIER 3 pages. For external linking, you have no external linking.
