As an online professor and course developer, I have created many classes, workshops, and training programs for the online environment. Since I have gotten more involved with my MLM business, I have been exposed to many different training techniques that upline use to train their downline. I can understand how time can fly and run on, topics can get a bit out of hand, and some items can get a bit out of control. However, I am going to share some BIG online educator secrets with all of you so you can train your teams EFFECTIVELY.
Here are 5 things that you want to AVOID when doing live trainings online for your team!
1. AVOID Starting Late!
Always start right on the dot. Who cares if people are late? So what? Remember in class and you were marked tardy if you were late? This is how it should be in your training sessions as well. Those overachievers and ones who really want the information make sure they are on your training early or on time. Don't punish them (that is exactly how they feel) by making them wait to get started. Let the others catch up. That is the price they pay for being unprofessional and being late.
2. AVOID Having Trainings Without An Agenda!
You want to always publish an agenda before the training. E-mail out an agenda for your participants before your training. This will let them know what is going to be discussed and they can decide if they want to attend or not. Give them an incentive at the end of the agenda to attend (some hot topic, contest announcement, etc.) Put all administrative announcements on the agenda so that you DO NOT have to cover it in the training. No training time should be used on administrative announcements that can be done via e-mail. Put it on the agenda so it is done and over before the training even begins.:-) If you are covering announcements for the first 15 min. of your training, you have lost the BEST retention time of your participants for the entire session.
3. AVOID Straying From Your Agenda.
The worst thing a leader can do in a training is totally go off topic and not follow the agenda they publish. This will make them look disorganized and it does the worst thing possible, makes the training longer. Stick to the agenda and if some subtopics arise from the training, write them down and put them on the agenda for the next training. It is as easy as that.:-)
4. AVOID Having Your Training Last Over 60 Min. Honestly, even 60 min. is TOO LONG for an online webinar. Studies show that the attention span on average is going to be 30 min. for online presentations, so you will be lucky if someone in your audience retains all information in the 60 min. If you get to 60 min. then STOP and push the rest of the agenda to the next training. Life will NOT stop. Your team will NOT die.;-) Pushing items from one agenda is fine. Remember the goal is to get your team to retain all the information you are presenting NOT to have the longest meeting in the history of an MLM team.:-)
5. AVOID Not Having Notes Available For Your Team After the Training.
Having wrap-up notes from each training is the best practice you can get into. If someone did not retain all the information, you are providing them with it again. Have someone on the team taking notes for you or you can take notes from your recording. Use the agenda that you have previously published and just fill in more details with bullets, then e-mail it again as "Notes from XXX Training." This will have a profound impact on your team's performance and reduce the amount of miscommunication among team members and transfer of information from the generations of downline.
